Ideal
Room Arrangement
Desk Arrangement:
My ideal desk arrangement for my classroom is the "U"shape. I like how it is open with lots of room for the students to move around without having to maneuver between desks and bothering other students. It serves as a good way for the teacher to monitor and see all the children instead of stacking the chairs in a parallel fashion. Students that are disabled can easily go to their desk inside or on the outside edge of "U" to have better access to the board. Also it can help them not feel left out because other students are seated beside them. Also this arrangement helps children from running frantically around the room. Front of the Room:
In the front of the classroom there will be a projector either with or without a projector screen to project booklets or help with phonics awareness. Also it serves as a good way of following directions like circling or drawing a line through a word because some children that start Kindergarten need to be introduced to technology and have fun while they learning with it. A carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom near the board like this one so students can sit on the outer edge using only the letters V through H so everyone can equally see a book during reading time.
Reading Center
Art or Writing Center
Quiet Center
I want all of my learning centers in all parts of the room as much as possible so children can have fun exploring and have lots of opportunities to learn. The corner of the room where the window is located is the perfect place to decorate a art or writing center. It serves as a inspiration and encouragement to tackle even the toughest of tasks. In the reading center beanbags, chairs, buckets and selves of books can be added to create a "homeyness" atmosphere. A neutral or calm blue would be most suitable for this area because it symbolizes peace and tranquility. Also most importantly, establishing a quiet area. Students everyday face difficult challenges that they don't understand and need time alone to think about it or need time away from other children.
Supplies Organization:
Supplies in the room are going to be organized and labeled so students can find supplies with ease. This will cause less confusion when they are asked to find supplies for different subjects like dry erase boards, markers, pencils, and extra crayons.
Cubbies:
When children first walk inside the door they need a place to hang their coat and put other supplies inside like extra change of clothes for a art time or for accidents. It serves as first step of learning organizational skills. Students can put their box of crayons, extra paper or other materials on the top while their jacket and backpack in the middle and shoes or extra clothing on the bottom.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR AND RULES

At the beginning of the school year it is important to establish the rules and what kind of behavior is expected. Very young children have a hard time distinguishing the rules when it is all written in words so pictures along with words can help children see what is expected. Also I have never tried this before but instead loosing your voice or having to whistle when children are misbehaving have a chart like the one above, verbally warn them of what they are doing, and move the children clothespin where you think it needs to go.
